Maya Devi Temple is an ancient Buddhist temple located in Lumbini, Nepal, which is considered the birthplace of Gautama Buddha. The temple is situated at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lumbini and is the main temple at the site. The temple stands adjacent to a sacred pool known as Puskarni and a sacred garden. The archaeological remains at the site were previously dated to the third-century BCE brick buildings constructed by Ashoka, and a sixth-century BCE timber shrine was discovered in 2013. The temple is the spiritual heart of Lumbini, and visitors can visit the Ashokan Pillar in the sacred garden adjoining the temple, which denotes the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama. The temple is undoubtedly one of the most revered sites in Buddhism and is a popular site of pilgrimage.
